DESCRIPTION

Allow yourself to be taken across time on this one-day trip to discover the secrets of the midlands of Portugal, on a unique and exclusive route that includes emblematic cities, towns and villages as well as the major monuments and historic sites that have marked the presence of the Knights Templar in Portugal. Begin by admiring the inimitable charm of the Almourol Castle, built in 1171 on an island in the Tejo river, accessible only by boat.

Then get to know the famous village of Constância, with only 900 inhabitants, the place where you’ll delight in one of most acclaimed and authentic Conventual sweets from the Carmelitas Sisters: “Queijinhos do Céu” (Heaven’s Cheese). Follow on to the city of Tomar, where, as well as enjoying lunch in one of the restaurants on offer in the historic town centre, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Church of S. João Baptista, the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, the 15th century Jewish Synagogue and the famous Tomar Castle. Before the trip is over we will take you to visit one of the most emblematic and astonishing convents in Portugal, Christ’s Convent, headquarters of the Order of the Poor Knights of Christ of the Temple of Solomon, also referred to as the Knights Templar, until 1357 when the group was extinct and replaced by Order of Christ to defend Portugal from the Moors. This is then a historic and architecturally unmissable tour which will take you back in time to enchanted places from which you wont want to return!
